At Kingfisher Restaurant & Bar you will have a warm welcome with our roaring fires and large bar and restaurant facilities. Including a function room to cater for private events. We offer indoor restaurant seating along with tables in the bar for those wishing to watch the large screen TV. Sun deck in summer offers large tables and umbrellas to enjoy the sunshine and lake views.
Our menu is large and extensive with a great selection for New Zealand produce catering to meat lovers with our famous butchers board and the West Coast’s very own blackball sausages, bangers and mash. Lighter meals are popular with our salad and vegetarian range. Mix and match your meals or share off our small bites menu! So much to choose from including the classic pub grub, burgers, fish n chips and pizza!

History of Hotel Lake Brunner
Being built in the 1930’s with local timber to service the TranzAlpine Rail service, our way of life connecting the East and West Coast’s of the South Island, New Zealand. The Hotel once called the Chateau Moana, provides a warm and friendly environment for travellers and locals to share news and stories.
The name Brunner was bestowed on the lake, to recognise the explorer and surveyor Thomas Brunner, who with the help of his Maori guide Kehu, is considered to be the first European to see this supreme rain forest lake in January 1848. The lake, Moana Kotuku Whakaoho, was already a significant area to local Iwi, as it provided year round Kai (food) on their journey across the Southern Alps via the Taramakau Valley and onto the East Coast trading their sacred Pounamu stone.
